There's an exciting update about the production of "The Picture of Dorian Gray."
Previews are set to begin on March 10, 2025, following a successful run in London's West End. It will officially open on March 27 and will be running until June 15 at the Music Box Theatre in New York.
The story, written by Oscar Wilde in 1890, centers on a young man who mysteriously acquires eternal youth while a disturbing change takes place in a painting of him at home.
Sarah Snook is set to shine on Broadway in this solo adaptation of Wilde's classic. The 36-year-old Australian actress took home a 2024 Olivier Award for her outstanding performance in the production, where she deftly balanced multiple roles. During her time in the West End, she tackled the challenges of live acting, engaged with prerecorded material, and managed the technical details of her scenes. She brought 26 unique characters to life while achieving synchronization.
The upcoming play revolves around Basil Hallward, an artist enchanted by Dorian Gray's beauty, which ultimately leads him down a dark path of self-indulgence and an obsessive quest for aesthetic perfection. Basil sacrifices his soul and strikes a deal to preserve his portrait's youth.
Director Kip Williams will again take the reins, returning to the production from its London origins. The set and costume design will be brought to life by Marg Horwell, while Nick Schlieper will illuminate the stage with his lighting design. Clemence Williams will weave together the composition and sound design with visuals brought to you by David Bergman.
Snook garnered tons of acclaim with her portrayal of Shiv Roy in the HBO series "Succession." Throughout the show's four seasons, the actress was honored with an Emmy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and a Critics Choice Award.
