In response to the evolving landscape of digital content protection within the dance industry, Steps on Broadway has organized an event titled "Inspiration or Imitation? A Town Hall on Dance & Plagiarism."

It is scheduled for Sunday, October 20.

The town hall is to address the problem of choreography being exploited and monetized without due credit. Additionally, it aims to explore the major issue of protecting creative work in the online world.

The upcoming town hall follows a recent situation involving an instructor in Spain who copied and gained from choreography designed by Town Hall panelists Joshua Bergasse, Richard J. Hinds, Courtney Ortiz, and Sarah Meahl, presenting it as his work.

Steps on Broadway is a hub for innovative choreography and creative content. The recent incident involving stolen material from their classes and videos has stirred up debates on the protection of choreography.

This development has prompted discussions on safeguarding intellectual property, making the upcoming town hall meeting a crucial event for industry professionals.

Under the guidance of Wendy Perron, the ex-Chief Editor of Dance Magazine, the special event is set to feature a lineup of choreographers and legal professionals. Each participant will offer their distinct point of view on the importance of safe-keeping artistic creations amid the prevalence of online sharing.

The panelists for the event include Bergasse, Hinds, Meahl, Ortiz, Angel Kaba, Staci Triager and Gabby Ziccarelli.
