Bill Horschel, the famous PGA golfer, is in the news...and for once it doesn't center around his swing. The sports star was sporting some nontraditional greenway attire--a pair of Ralph Lauren octopus pants. But, where can you buy a pair for yourself?
Sunday marked the final round of the U.S. Open and Horschel did not disappoint. Horschel closed out the day just four strokes behind Phil Mickelson, who was leading at the finals.
This probably pleases Ralph Lauren, who Horschel receives sponsorship from. The pants have been generating more press than Horschel's actual golf performance (which could bring its own difficulties).
And, that's largely because you can't miss them. The pants' base color is a traditional navy. The octopuses, which are large and numerous, come in bright white.
Fans of Horschel got to preview the pants before the big game. He posted his daily outfit, along with three others (all Ralph Lauren), on his Twitter account.
The photo he posted to Twitter of the now-infamous Octopus pants had the following text:
"Well here they are! The highly anticipated highly controversial....Octopus pants! Great outfits all week by RLX!"
The pants are expected to cost around $100, but are not currently listed on the website (which, by the way, is probably the most difficult website to navigate in the history of the internet...even when it was entirely text-based).
It is unclear why the pants are not available in lieu of their high profile coverage at the U.S. Open. Many industry insiders view this as a wasted opportunity for the clothing empire, who is not known for its missteps.
When the pants officially go on sale, they will be available here.
