Chamique Holdsclaw Depression Worsens, Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Girlfriend

Chamique Holdsclaw, of WNBA fame, admits to suffering from depression. She cites her mental acuity, among other things, as to why she plead guilty to assault charges.

Mrs. Holdsclaw, who is an Olympic champion, was originally planning on issuing a not guilty verdict, to multiple charges against her ex-girlfriend, Jennifer Lacey.

Back in February, when charges were brought forth, her attorney, Ed Garland issued the following statement in USA Today:

"Our position is that she is not guilty of having committed any assault upon Ms. Lacy. The events occurred after an emotional situation between the two of them. She did assault the car itself and damage the car with the baseball bat and firing the gun; however, there was no assault on Ms. Lacy. We expect to negotiate a proper resolution to this matter with the district attorney's office."

Since then, things have continued to plummet for the once-great basketball star. She was also found guilty of criminal damage, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

What warranted this verdict?

On November 13, 2012, Holdsclaw got into an altercation with her then-girlfriend. Ms. Lacey, who was also a professional basketball player, and holdclaw got into a heated argument.

While not too many details of the case have arisen, the altercation that ensued seems priceless.

Ms. Lacey was simply driving her vehicle through the streets of Georgia, when she received an unwelcome surprise. When Ms. Lacey came to a complete stop, Holdsclaw exited from a vehicle behind her and charged Ms. Lacey's car.

It is alleged that Ms. Holdsclaw used a bat to damage Ms. Lacey's 2010 Land Rover. As if breaking out the windows wasn't enough, Holdsclaw took out a pistol and began firing through the back seat.

Those aren't even the worst allegations. Seems like Holdsclaw was trying to burn her former lover alive. Police reports indicate that Lacey's vehicle reeked of gasoline, after letting Holdsclaw borrow the keys.

Whoa--that's enough to make Fatal Attraction fans squeamish.

So, it is of no surprise that Holdsclaw plead guilty. After citing depression as the cause of her erratic (and let's face it, just plain crazy) antics, she was sentenced.

Ms. Holdsclaw will be facing three years probation, forced anger management classes, a $3,000 fine and 120 hours of community service.

To fulfill her mandatory community service, Ms. Holdsclaw will be speaking to young women who struggle with depression.
