Presley "Rhonda" Gridley is not a very good psychic. Not only was she wrong about the location of a mass grave, but she also couldn't see that her lies would result in a $7 million dollar lawsuit.
The Texas based "psychic" gained a lot of attention for her outrageous claims in 2011. Ms. Gridley, not to be confused with Cleo, was certain she had been shown the whereabouts of a mass grave.
In fact, she was so sure of her premonition that she contacted law enforcement officials in Liberty City, Texas. She informed the officers that Joe Bankston and Gena Charlton's home was filled with dead bodies.
The police, who took the claim seriously (how?), conducted their own investigation. Turns out the only thing the pair is guilty of is somehow being associated with an absolute nut job.
The trial, which occurred May 7, did not go well for Ms. Gridley. A Dallas County judge ordered "Rhonda" to pay the injured party $6.8 million dollars.
Gridley would have probably been in shock, if she had actually heard the verdict. Rhonda was not present for the trial, which again, makes for a very poor psychic.
The plaintiffs were awarded the settlement after a judge found Ms. Gridley, 50, guilty of defamation. The real guilty party here, however, is the police.
Without verifying the claims, the police went to media outlets and revealed the home-owners' names and location. They even repeated the most absurd elements of Rhonda's allegations--telling the press that there was between 25 and 30 dismembered corpses.
Idiots.
