Notorious rapper 2 Chainz is singing a new song this morning--"I Was Not Robbed." It's not an especially great title...and it may not be especially true, either.
Sunday, June 9, TMZ reported that Chainz had been in a bit of an altercation. Turns out he and his entire crew were robbed at gunpoint, during the middle of the day.
San Francisco police responded to reports of gunfire at 4:30 p.m. Tauheed Epps, 2 Chainz's Christian name, was reportedly uncooperative.
Mr. Epps insisted that only his wallet had been stolen and told police that he would handle the situation himself. Because that's not how things work outside of a rap video, the police continued their investigation.
The first step was to see if any surveillance footage exists. It did.
When police reviewed the evidence, it was confirmed that Mr. Epps was the intended target. When guns were drawn, Epps' 5-member posse "scattered like cockroaches," according to official reports.
For a thugged out rapper, losing street cred is worse than being robbed. Unfortunately, both of these things happened to 2 Chainz.
Trying to save face, the rapper posted the following update to his Twitter account on Monday:
While users struggle to decipher that cryptic message, it can be inferred that he is denying the robbery. This is, of course, contrary to the reports issued by the San Francisco Police Department.
The SFPD spoke with MTV News this afternoon and disputed Epp's tweet:
"An official told MTV News that 2 Chainz and five members of his entourage were approached by three men, one of whom had a handgun, and fired a shot on the 800 block of Howard Street in San Francisco. The suspects fled after the incident. Police confirmed that no one was injured, but that 'Mr. Epps is listed as a victim of a stolen wallet containing credit cards, U.S. currency and a cell phone.'"
