After Dwight Howard Domestic Abuse Allegations, Houston's Most Hated Player Treated Like Royalty

Dwight Howard is one of the most efficient (and one of the most hated) players in professional basketball. One report suggest, even with the controversy that surrounds him, he is still considered basketball royalty, and it even looks like he will receive special treatment in his upcoming child abuse case.

Howard's performance in high school was so impressive that it gave him the opportunity to skip college and enter the NBA draft directly. In 2004, the Orlando Magic selected him as the first overall pick.

The 29-year-old Atlanta native has a respectable list of accomplishments.

He is an 8-time All-Star, 7-time All-NBA team member and a 3-time Defensive Player of the Year.

Also, he is consistently ranked as one of the leagues best in rebounds, blocks and field goal percentages.

Even with such a respectable repertoire, he is still hated by his fellow athletes. According to SB Nation, Howard has been targeted by some big names:

"Howard has found a way to turn multiple NBA fan bases against him while also having players say things to him that would make your mother blush. Kevin Durant felt comfortable enough to talk crazy at Howard while his leg was still in a boot. Kobe Bryant felt bold enough to squabble with Howard for a rebound...All of this happens even though Howard's teammates have mostly positive things to say about him..."

Also, it doesn't seem to matter how hated an athlete is on the court, society treats these players like royalty.

According to TMZ Sports, sometimes they even get privileges in court:

"The child abuse investigation into NBA star Dwight Howard has just been kicked to the Atlanta PD. If charges are brought against Dwight, the matter would be prosecuted by the Fulton County District Attorney's Office. The Fulton County District Attorney...is Dwight Howard's uncle. The Cobb County PD was initially handling the investigation into allegations Dwight beat his 6-year-old son...But the CCPD tells us investigators now believe the alleged incident occurred in Fulton County, where Dwight's uncle has been the head prosecutor in charge since 1997."
