Seattle's Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas Expected to Play in Super Bowl After Championship Game Injures

The Seattle Seahawks, arguably, have the most dominant defenses in the league. A lot of their success can be contributed to their secondary line, a.k.a. "the legion of the boom." Unfortunately for Seattle, two of the group's biggest members, Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas, suffered injuries during the NFC championship game. Now, reports are saying that the two are expected to play in one of sports' biggest games. Based on their impressive stats, even with injuries, their attendance at the Super Bowl is virtually required for Seahawk's victory.

The Seahawks drafted Richard Sherman in 2011. During his short time in the league, he has stacked some impressive stats. He has over 24 interceptions and more than 60 defended passes. He is known for his big personality and his even bigger plays.

Similar to Sherman, Earl Thomas hasn't been in the NFL for very long, however, his strong performance makes him seem like a veteran. He has 38 pass deflections and close to 500 tackles.

All in all, it is easy to see why these athletes are key members of Seattle's game plan. According to ESPN, fans need not worry, because they are expected to play against New England:

"Sherman [said] that an MRI taken Monday revealed an elbow sprain. The star cornerback suffered the injury in the second half Sunday but remained in the game as the Seahawks rallied for a 28-22 overtime victory...Thomas dislocated his shoulder in the first half Sunday and also underwent an MRI on Monday. Still, both are expected to play in Super Bowl XLIX despite suffering injuries in the NFC Championship Game."

On a side note, not only do these players possess great skill, they also have mountains of will. According to Seahawk's, Pete Carroll was impressed by his players:

"The Seahawks' coach does know one thing when it comes to the grit displayed by Thomas, who returned to the game wearing a shoulder harness after being injured in the second quarter; and Sherman, who refused to leave the field after he was injured in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks allowed 22 points against the Packers, the most during their current eight-game winning streak. And the Packers' 306 yards were the second-highest total during that stretch."

So, even with two of their biggest players injured, the Hawks still managed to keep up with their reputation as a great defense. What are your opinions on the situation? Let us know in the comment section below.
