During his short time in the NFL, Russell Wilson's skills have surprised fans all over the nation. Wilson also surprised the public when he revealed that he and his wife of only two years, Ashton Meem, were getting a divorce. Now, Wilson's ex-teammate, Golden Tate, has addressed the rumors that suggest he could be the cause for the split. In his official statement, Tate claims that the rumors are unfounded, and that Wilson knows that they are false.
When news of the split first hit the fan, one report stated that Tate actually thought what he was reading was a joke.
He wasn't the only one. The couple seemed like the perfect example of what a relationship should look like.
Wilson and Ashton were often plastered across news pages, and their love seemed to be genuine. However, as it seems to be the case more times than not, there was a darker side to that story.
Right out of the gate, sources began pointing fingers and divvying up the blame. According to TMZ Sports, Golden Tate recently addressed the rumors that he has faced:
"Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate says he DID NOT have sexual relations with Russell Wilson's wife ... despite rumors to the contrary ... and he claims the Seahawks QB knows it. Of course, Wilson and his wife Ashton split up back in April and there were rumblings that it all had to do with an alleged affair involving one of Russell's Seattle Seahawks teammates. Golden signed with Detroit a short time later ... fueling the rumors. But now Tate is denying everything..."
It is easy to simply deny everything, his argument seems to be sincere (via Freep):
"I did not have an affair with Russell Wilson's wife, nor did I have anything to do with his divorce...That is laughable for anyone who knows us. His ex-wife, Ashton, is still best friends with my girlfriend...Russell and I were good friends when I was in Seattle, on and off the field - he knows the rumors about me were unfounded, damaging to my reputation, and an attack on my character."
