With The View's ratings in a tailspin and half the cast being absent from the TV show, fans of Barbara Walters' old series aren't sure whether they should believe the rumors that Rosie Perez has been fired or not. According to the latest gossip news updates, Rosie O'Donnell and the ABC producers are denying the leak to stall for more time to find a permanent replacement. Whoopi Goldberg has been sidelined more than a week thanks to surgery to correct her herniated disk but has vowed to return as soon as she is able. Hopefully, the old school host will be able to shed some light on the Perez' employment status.
As the weeks go by and ABC's The View loses more and more viewers it seems obvious that the network's producers are going to have to do something drastic soon, whether they want to or not.
So, when highly respected Variety magazine broke the news that Rosie Perez' temporary absence to work on a play was had become permanent, it made perfect since.
One source even told the NY Daily News that the fact that Perez was the weakest link in the chain made her the obvious choice for replacement:
"She's constantly correcting herself because she's constantly screwing something up.
"She's not the sharpest tool in the shed."
Despite all the internet chatter, Entertainment Weekly reports that the reps for the show have dismissed the allegations that Rosie is finished (via WetPaint):
"Rosie Perez is currently in rehearsal for her Broadway play for the month of January.
"Her status with the show has not changed."
The fact that Whoopi Goldberg has also been absent from The View panel has only fueled the uncertainty, but the comedienne swore from her bed at the hospital that she would return as soon as humanly possible (via ABCNews):
"I've had a herniated disc, which is something that has been so painful it made me wish to have my period back again.
"I'm going to be back much sooner than anybody thinks, and I'll be back stronger than ever."
Yes...but will Rosie Perez.
