As things continue to get worse and worse for Bill Cosby's personal reputation and professional career, his fans and critics alike expect that before long the aging comedian will be forced to take an interview addressing the many accusations of rape that has surfaced since Hannibal Burress first brought attention to the scandal several weeks ago. According to the latest gossip news updates, Oprah is a shoo-in to land the honor of talking to Cosby. Word has it that besides already having a friendly relationship with Bill and his wife Camille, the Jell-O pudding salesman is said to believe the Winfrey is the only one that will give hive the chance to separate the allegations from the facts. Meanwhile in addition to having his deals with Netflix and NBC fall through, Bill has the mayors of Ontario suggesting that his upcoming performances be cancelled.
Bill Cosby may have thought that this most recent round of rape allegations would blow over like they had so many times in the past, but after weeks of high-profile accusers surfacing to tell the stories of abuse, it looks like that isn't going to be the case.
According to a behind the scenes informant who spoke in the January 12, issue of Star, Cosby is starting to realize that an interview with Oprah Winfrey may be his last shot clearing his name:
"If Bill Cosby doesn't address these charges soon, he can kiss his career good-bye.
"[Oprah] has already had some talks with Bill and his wife, Camille.
"He respects Oprah...she was one of the people who reached out to them when their son, Ennis, was murdered."
The source goes on to elaborate that Cosby also realizes that he may be in a position to dictate terms to Winfrey -- knowing how badly her struggling network really needs something like this to stay afloat:
"He thinks that she won't hit him with too many hardball questions...she knows it would be an absolute ratings bonanza for her OWN network."
Whatever Cosby is planning to do, let's hope for his sake that it consists of more than just forcing the venues that have already signed contracts for him to perform in Canada to go through with putting him onstage this month.
Even though Cosby's representatives have made it plain that he was planning on doing his standup regardless of however anyone who lives in those community feel about it, several mayors from southern Ontario, where Cosby is scheduled to perform over the next two weeks, are making it clear that he is not wanted (via Toronto Sun):
"Given the situation, the reaction from our community and the reaction that we've seen across North America...I think it would send the right message for the organizers to cancel the show."
It's kind of hard to see how bullying our neighbors to the north is going to help Cosby be able to walk down the streets in America without being called a rapist...so, he may just be doing it for sport.
