The WWE's Elimination Chamber Pay-Per-View has never stood as strong as Royal Rumble or WreslteMania. However, if you skipped it this year, you missed out, because it featured the "Match of the Year," when The Wyatt Family defeated The Shield. Sources have also pointed out that the anticipation leading up to the event was almost as exiting as the match itself.
The Wyatt Family got their start with WWE's developmental branch, NXT. While there, two of the brothers, Harper and Rowan, won the NXT Tag Team Championship. Since then, they have competed in multiple WWE Tag Team Championships.
On the other hand, The Shield's reputation is just as respectable.
At one point they went on an undefeated streak from December 2012 all the way to May 2013. During that same month, all three members won championship golds at the Extreme Rules PPV.
In turn, it was completely understandable why the fans that attended were pumped to see the proverbial clash of the titans. According to Cageside Seats, it was worthy of being called the "Match of the Year":
"The Elimination Chamber pay-per-view has long suffered through an unfortunate disadvantage created merely by its placement on the WWE calendar. It just so happens to be sandwiched between the two biggest events of the year, Royal Rumble and WrestleMania.,,It's generally regarded as a show you can skip. If you did so this past year, however, you would have missed what Cageside Seats readers voted the "Match of the Year" for 2014: the very first match between The Shield and The Wyatt Family..."
Not only was the match, itself, exiting, the anticipation leading up to the event was just as riveting. According to the WWE, the building was full and electric:
"The battle was every bit the conflict it was predicted to be...The capacity crowd gathered in the Target Center was on its feet in anticipation before the bell even rang, watching and waiting for the two factions to collide. The WWE Universe declared, "This is awesome" before the six Superstars even came into contact with each other. Despite rumblings that there may be a crack in The Shield..."
