For a while now, it has been rumored that former 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh will be taking over the head coaching position at the University of Michigan. Well, it is official. Harbaugh, himself, just confirmed the switch in an official press conference. Also, footballers like Tom Brady have publically supported Jim's decision and even say they are excited to see what he can do.
Before he coached in the NFL, Jim actually played in it for 14 seasons. Originally, the Chicago Bears selected Harbaugh in the first round of the 1987 NFL Draft. From that point on, he played with several different teams including the Indianapolis Colts and the Baltimore Ravens.
Jim got his first head-coaching job with the University of San Diego -- He stuck around from 2004-2006. He has made many switches since then, but his most respectable results were, of course, with the San Francisco 49ers.
Now, according to ESPN, the move to Michigan has been made official:
"Jim Harbaugh was officially introduced as the new coach at Michigan, calling the return to his alma mater a 'homecoming' and vowing 'excellence' for a football program seeking its first national title since 1997. 'Throughout my life, I have dreamed of coaching at the University of Michigan,' a husky-voiced and raspy Harbaugh...said at a packed news conference. 'Now I have the honor to live it.'"
Even though some 49ers fans are pretty sore at Jim, the majority of the football world is optimistic for the future. According to TMZ Sports, even Tom Brady is pumped:
"Tom Brady is fired up for his alma mater to hire Jim Harbaugh -- claiming the move would be nothing short of 'awesome.' Brady called in to WEEI in Boston today -- and when asked about the possibility that Harbaugh takes the head coaching job at the University of Michigan, Brady was all about it. 'If Michigan could get that type of coach, it would be incredible," the Patriots QB said. 'To have a great coach like that lead a program is awesome.'"
