Ray McDonald's football career has been fairly decent, however, the nearly 300 pound brute is more well known for his more scandalous activities. Earlier in the year, he was arrested for domestic violence after allegedly inflicting damage on his spouse. Now, McDonald has officially been kicked off of the San Francisco 49ers' team for being a suspect in a rape investigation.
Before his time in the NFL, McDonald played college ball for the University of Florida in Gainesville. He and the Gators squad defeated Ohio State in the 2007 BCS Nation Championship Game. Shortly after that, the 49ers drafted him, and he has been with them ever since.
At times, he was able to perform and pull out some respectable stats.
In the 2011 season, he had a career high of 5.5 sacks and 39 tackles. Nevertheless, his most notable actions have occurred off of the field. According to the Washington Post, like many others in the NFL, McDonald has a problem with keeping his hands to himself:
"The San Francisco 49ers defensive end was arrested in a domestic violence incident involving his pregnant fiancée. Santa Clara County records show McDonald...was booked at 5:30 a.m. PDT for "inflicting injury on a spouse or cohabitant...his fiancée showed bruises to police..."
Eventually, it was determined that charges would not be filed against Ray in this case, due to conflicting statements. McDonald must have let this go to his head, because he is in hot water again.
TMZ Sports reported that Ray McDonald has officially been kicked from the 49ers after his alleged involvement in recent rape allegations:
"The San Francisco 49ers cut [Ray McDonald] from the team on the heels of him being named a suspect in a rape investigation. General Manger Trent Baalke [said] the decision to drop McDonald was not solely based on the latest investigation, but instead it was due to a 'pattern of poor decision making.' Baalke said a 'plan was put in place' with Ray and the alleged rape case went 'against that plan.'...it sounded like the team had warned McDonald -- after the alleged domestic violence incident with his fiancée in August..."
