Barack Obama Bashes Roger Goodell’s Ray Rice Domestic Violence Assault Punishment, NFL Commissioner Gets Shade

Since his time in office, Roger Goodell has been described as "the most powerful man in sports". Well, the most powerful person in the country, Barack Obama, recently targeted "the most powerful man in sports" for his tactless handling of the Ray Rice domestic violence assault incident and violent athletes in general. Also, the level of scrutiny coming from the president is tame compared to rhe thrashing the commissioner is getting from the Internet.

Goodell actually got his start in the NFL as an intern for the then-commissioner Pete Rozelle. He probably wasn't aware of the interesting career ahead of him at the time.

Also doubtful, is whether or not he would have taken the job if he knew of the virtual beating that would, in turn, await him.

Barack Obama recently set his penetrating gaze upon Goodell. One would expect results after such a well-publicized incident. According to TMZ Sports, the Commander-in-Chief didn't beat around the bush:

"President Barack Obama just went after Roger Goodell -- saying the NFL Commish is 'winging it' when it comes to the league's disciplinary action on domestic violence." Obama said, "'the way it was handled also indicates that the NFL was behind the curve...as a lot of institutions have been behind the curve, in sending a clear message.' That's when Obama took aim at Goodell -- who's been under fire for being inconsistent with the punishment he's dished out to players...'You don't want to be winging it when something like this happens. You want to have clear policies in place.'"

These statements carry an immense amount of weight and insinuations, especially coming from the big man himself. There is really no telling what the public will see from the NFL or the Government, after such a strong position has been taken.

Additionally, the public has been speaking up in the media, and needless to say, they are not pulling any punches. For example, these statements from Deadspin are harsh but some could argue as warranted:

"The Wall Street Journal intended to, drum up some good PR for Goodell ahead of today's forthcoming announcement of the league's new personal conduct policy. (What the Journal has actually done, though, is confirm what's becoming more plainly obvious by the day: Roger Goodell is dumb as a f*cking post.. [It is a] reminder of his complete inability to effectively wield his power with some George W. Bush-level obtuseness."

What's next? Its hard to say, but sports fans can feel something rumbling from beneath. What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below.
