Cam Newton has been in the public view for quite some time now. His football career has had its ups and downs, but ultimately made Newton a household name. Cam was recently in a pretty severe car wrecj, which the Panther suggests strengthened his belief in God. However, Newton has made curious God-based statements in the past, and his past criminal record and family investigation has many wondering if he was sincere.
Cam is most well known for playing college ball in the state of Alabama for the Auburn Tigers. However, he orignially attended the University of Florida.
While he played for the Gators he served as back-up quarterback for the eventual Heisman Trophy winner, Tim Tebow.
Later, though, Cam was kicked from the team after the cops busted him for stealing a laptop computer. His 2009 dismissal led him to Blinn College and eventually to Auburn.
Interestingly, after winning the BCS Championship with Auburn, Newton made some praises to the big man up stairs. According to Bleacher Report, his statement seemed a little shaky:
"Cam Newton said that his journey to the BCS championship proved how God could take a bad thing and make it good. That sort of statement is usually reserved for people who face adversity that is not of their own doing, It hardly feels right when it is used by a person whose family has been under investigation and whose father is told by school officials to stay away from the game."
As you've likely heard by now, Newton was in accident that easily could have ended his life. According to TMZ Sports, it seems that the NFL superstar religious position is genuine:
"Cam Newton says he's SHOCKED that he wasn't killed or seriously injured in that frightening rollover crash Tuesday...he's been constantly thanking God that he survived. The Carolina Panthers QB just released a statement saying when he looks at images of the wreck he immediately begins to think, 'soMEone is supposed to be dead or severely injured worse than what I am right now!' Cam says the accident has strengthened his faith in god ... and says, 'Someone has their protective hands on my life shielding me from any danger that may come my way!'"
