For the past few years, one of the main problems in WWE is that there seems to be no other top fighter in the company other than John Cena. Some fans are very quick to put the blame on Cena's shoulders, claiming that he's holding everyone else down on purpose. And now Stone Cold Steve Austin has offered up his views on the Champion? Is a match in the works?
John Cena has dominated the WWE scene for close to a decade now.
However, there has been a lack of worthy contenders to accompany Cena on the top ropes. In the past, John commented that he felt Steve Austin's return to the organization was imminent. Now, Austin is the one commenting on Cena, and he claims to have " a lot of respect for him."
Cena started his wrestling career in 1999 with Ultimate Pro Wrestling. He didn't appear on the WWE's main roster until 2002. Since then, he has won more than 20 championships and is currently the 15-time world champion.
In April of 2012, Wrestle Mania 28 took place, and it was the highest grossing Pay Per View event to take place in the sport of wrestling. The main event of the show was, of course, John Cena Vs. The Rock. The Rock did win that bout, however, Cena returned the favor in a rematch in 2013.
Now, rumors have surfaced that suggest that Stone Cold Steve Austin could return to face Cena in a similar throw down. Earlier in the Year, Cage Side Seats reported that Cena wasn't opposed to the idea:
"When asked if he would face Steve Austin for a 'dream' Wrestlemania match just like his previous match with The Rock, he did not rule it out. 'I hope that his return to the ring is imminent. He has been training really hard and is in great shape,' he said during his Q&A...before his participation in the WWE Live in Malaysia event later in the day."
It is clear that Cena holds a certain amount of respect for the hard-boiled, Steve Austin. Reported on by Fansided, Stone Cold showed the same respect with his comments on why John is alone at the top:
"Now, I'm a little dismayed that he hasn't had a serious threat to come out there and try to knock him off. But again, that's not on John, that's on the fact that no one has come close to knocking him off his perch yet. But that guy shows up, he works his ass off, and he does the work. I've got a lot of respect for John Cena."
The sense of mutual respect makes the idea of a showdown between the two, that much more exiting. What do you think? Who would prevail in such a legendry match? Let us know in the comments below.
