2015 is almost here and that means that NBC’s Parks and Rec is almost back for its seventh and final season. The last season of the show is shaping up to be one of the biggest with several big names returning to the cast. Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World) may be a big shot action star now, but that won’t stop him from reprising his role as Andy this year. Super Creepy Directv spokesman Rob Lowe (The West Wing, The Interview) and Rashida Jones (The Office) are both coming back. That is not all, Mad Men’s Jon Hamm will also be reprise his brief role from the end of Season 6.
The last scene of Season 6, set three-years in the future, featured Mad Men’s Jon Hamm as the handsome yet incompetent Ed. Earlier in the year, executive producer Michael Schur spoke to Entertainment Weekly about Hamm’s cameo:
“When we conceived of this scene -- this kind of crazy, chaotic 60-second coda to the year-- I felt pretty strongly that one of the fun things would be to see someone really famous and to have them get fired immediately. I think Hamm may have actually improvised the line ‘It’s been a great three years.’ He either improvised it or we worked it out on the floor. But it just made us laugh that you would say: “Oh my God, we just missed three years of Jon Hamm!” And he made the decision, which I thought was so funny, to play the entire thing with a smile on his face. It was not the way it was conceived at all, and it’s so much funnier that he’s just like, ‘Yup! Totally understand. Goodbye!’”
Schur went on to add that Jon Hamm may be back next season:
“If I have my way, every episode where you see events that take place before that moment -- which, who knows how many that will be? -- will include a shot of him doing something insanely incompetent.”
