Over the course of his Mark Hamill has managed the delicate task of staying under the radar and in the spot light. As the star of one of the most popular film franchise of all time, Star Wars, Hamill is a pop culture icon. However, the actor earned even more geek culture credibility for his voice over work, including his portrayal of The Joker in the DC Animated Universe. Now Hamill is stepping back into his most famous role, the Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker, which he recently compared to Scrooge on Christmas morning. That is only fitting considering he can also be seen/heard replacing James Caan as the Scrooge like Walter in NBC’s Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas.
Recently, Mark Hamill spoke to Entertainment Weekly about what is like to finally reprise his role as Luke Skywalker in the new Star Wars film, Episode 7: The Force Awakens:
“I don’t know that I’m even completely recovered from my state of shock. Part of the experience of [Star Wars] in my life was coming down from that, putting it behind me. We had a beginning, middle, and an end. And I certainly, in a million years, never expected to return. I thought, even if they do more trilogies, my story is over.”
Hamill went on to explain that revisiting the Star Wars Universe was like being Scrooge after the three ghost, adding:
“It’s kind of like Scrooge on Christmas morning. ‘Oh my God, this time I’m going to appreciate it in a way I wasn’t able to as a young man. The fact that it is so special to so many people … it’s hard to believe you could take something for granted like that.”
Speaking of Scrooge's you can catch Mark Hamill as the Buddy’s grumpy biological father Walter in, the all new NBC animated special, Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas, tonight at 8:00 p.m. eastern on NBC.
