UFC President Dana White has proven with Brock Lesnar that he doesn't have a problem with fighters who "dabble" in the WWE. Earlier in the week, news sites reported that White was thinking about bringing WWE legend CM Punk into the mixed martial arts scene. Now, it seems the allegations may be true, as a number of media outlets are reporting that salary negotiations are underway.
The UFC has had its fair share of scandals since its creation in 1993. There was Daley's cheap shot in 113, Rivera's disrespect toward Bisbing and, of course, Anderson Silva's cockiness.
However, is UFC up for the theatrics that CM Punk would bring to the table? According to TMZ Sports, UFC President Dana White seems to think so:
"Dana White [says] he's definitely interested in having a conversation with CM Punk about fighting in the octagon...now that Punk's no longer with the WWE. White was at an event in NYC to celebrate the new UFC-Reebok partnership when he told us he likes Punk and knows he's a fan of MMA -- and would be open to having a conversation with the 36-year-old about joining the organization. 'I don't know if he can fight or anything like that...but sure, I wouldn't mind talking to CM Punk.'"
These talks were exiting for CM Punk fans, because they have been without him and his antics for almost a year now. Well, according to ESPN, these talks have evolved into official negotiations:
"The UFC has signed former WWE professional wrestler CM Punk to fight in the Octagon. The promotion announced the signing during its UFC 181 pay-per-view broadcast Saturday night. CM Punk, birth name Phil Brooks, has never fought professional mixed martial arts."
Punk, himself, addressed the situation, "This is my new career, 100 percent...I'm going to go full steam ahead, all systems go after today, and it's going to be fun."
It is reported that Punk intends to fight in the Middleweight division at 185 pounds. However, the 170-pound division isn't off the table.
