After all the speculation and anticipation of the past week, Universal has finally released the brand new trailer for Fast and Furious 7, and the wait sure was worth it. Apparently, the movie's name has been changed to Furious 7 to reflect the change in script since the tragic death of Paul Walker, whose autopsy update reveled was still alive immediately after the car crash. The new preview not only blows mind with its insane stunts and devil-may-care car play, it also sets up a theme the Vin Diesel has been personally championing since Paul Walker's senseless death this time last year--that at this point in their careers the cast are more like family than friends. In addition to making the video available through YouTube and their various social media accounts, Vin Diesel, who has been practically promoting the movie all by himself for months, has made it available on his Facebook page as well.
After a year of wondering exactly what the new Fast and Furious 7 movie would look like without Paul Walker around to finish the second half, it would appear as though director James Wan and his CGi team were able to final deliver a final product that lives up to the Fast legacy--if the rest of the movie is anythign like its new trailer.
Although, the film looks visually stunning with it high-flying car stunts and hard-hitting fight scenes, when Vin Diesel debuted the trailer with the rest of the cast on E! Online, he spoke only about the emotional overtones of the movie:
"They often call this saga the most progressive force in Hollywood because...when you watch our movie all that--all the differences of language and skin tone--go out the window...[and]all you see is family.
"And that started with the brotherhood of Dom and Brain and has extended to Fast and Furious 7...where when you think of family, you think of Fast and Furious.
"And it's touching because...we lost such a special person...a special angel."
R&B singer turned actor, Tyrese Gibson seconded that emotion, when he confessed that if they all weren't a family before Walker's tragic crash last November, than the certainly were after the fact (via The Spec):
"I was at Vin's house, I did everything I could possibly do, you know, Jordana [Brewster] was out of town a lot [filming 'Dallas'] ... we did whatever we had to do as a family to, like, rebuild each other and have the conversation that only we could have, to help us to get through that very rough patch."
While no one really thinks of Fast and Furious as a by-word for family...it certainly will be exciting to see the band get back together for a final swan song come April 3, of next year.
