A new, 120-member orchestra was born this week--the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America. No, not the snappiest of names, though it does echoes the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, after which the ensemble has been modelled. A few weeks ago, at the Classical:NEXT music industry conference in Vienna, much of the talk was about the collapse of one of Europe's largest distributors, The Codaex Group. Delegates talked about arriving knowing nothing of the company's problems, only to find themselves in an unexpected scramble for new distribution. But there were hopes that the important British arm, Codaex U.K. Ltd., might survive.
