EXCLUSIVE: Eli Keszler & Sō Percussion, 'Archway' @ Make Music New York

When Classicalite discovered that our friends at NPR Music had teamed up with Aaron Friedman's Make Music New York for a truly unique commission involving both Eli Keszler and Sō Percussion, we knew exactly where we'd be on Friday, June 21, 2013...down under the Manhattan Bridge overpass.

Presented in collaboration with the Improvement District of DUMBO, NYC's DoT, Q2 and ISSUE Project Room's PAN Fest, Keszler's Archway used tuned piano wires--stretching all the way from Adams Street to Anchorage Place--and mechanical beaters to conjure a rich and resonant drone for Sō's battery of snares and cymbals.

Moreover, the entire Archway installation was built, experienced and dismantled on June 21--the longest day of the year, indeed.

Yesterday, we posted favored footage of a strange bird flying over Eli Keszler's strings and Sō's Percussion's Josh Quillen, Adam Sliwinski, Jason Treuting and Eric Beach.

Our favorite part of this follow-up video, however? (Save for that one guy's blue boxers peeking in and out of his trousers, obviously.)

At ca. 80 seconds in, a clad-in-shades JG Thirlwell (Manorexia, Foetus, Steroid Maximus, Baby Zizanie, Hydroze Plus, Clint Ruin, Wiseblood) can be seen clearly enjoying the proceedings.

Classicalite wonders if he, too, had seen our avian friend.

As you can tell from both of our vids, NPR Music filmed the entirety of this performance for a forthcoming feature over at NPR.org. You'd do well to look for it soon.
