Australian Chamber Orchestra's ACO Underground Plays Bach and Stravinsky, Nirvana and Nine Inch Nails at (Le) Poisson Rouge

Our favorite downtown dwelling, (Le) Poisson Rouge, is once again bringing you the best in hipster classical (or anything endeavoring to be it).

Apropos, the Australian Chamber Orchestra's little sister, ACO Underground, will perform a one-off electro-acoustic gig at (L)PR on March 20.

ACO Underground's set stretches from Bach to Stravinsky, Nirvana to Nine Inch Nails. Founder and renowned violinist and singer, Satu Vänskä, will direct the performance.

She'll be joined by bass guitarist Brian Ritchie (Violent Femmes), guitarist Jim Moginie (Midnight Oil) and Jacob Greenberg on piano.

And with all that hype regarding the "ex-Lipinski" Strad, you may want to come check out Vänskä's own 1728 instrument.

Steve Smith over at Time Out New York says:

"...the Australian Chamber Orchestra, don't play New York nearly often enough. But, on the rare occasion that they do come in from Down Under, they leave an indelible mark on the city's music scene."

Case in point: In 2012, Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood dropped by ACO Underground for a surprise cameo--marking yet another classical outing for the guitarist.

He may or may not, gasp!, drop by again.

This iteration of ACO at (L)PR goes down Thursday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m.

Doors are at 6:30 and seated tickets are $25 in advance/$30 day of.
