Two cultural icons, Radiohead and The National, have been carving out the modern musical landscape for quite some time now.
Both groups have been, well, instrumental in creating a legacy that has managed to stay genuine and, for the most part, outside the mainstream.
And now, Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood and The National's Bryce Dessner have announced a split release due for March 3 via Deutsche Grammophon/Universal Classic.
The split compiles three orchestral works by Dessner, framed with a suite from Greenwood's original soundtrack to There Will Be Blood.
Per Pitchfork, Dessner's contributions will include his 2011 St. Carolyn by the Sea, with both Bryce and his brother bandmate Aaron on electric guitar.
Also included are his 2012 Lachrimae and Raphael from 2007--as performed by the Copenhagen Philharmonic, conducted by André de Ridder.
If that isn't enough to open your wallet, following the release, selections from St. Carolyn by the Sea will be performed at downtown hot spot (Le) Poisson Rouge by the Wordless Music Orchestra.
From there, Dessner will pack up the bandwagon and hit Cincinnati's MusicNOW Festival--of which Dessner is artistic airector--on March 21.
A track listing can be found on Pitchfork. Until then, here is a behind-the-scenes look at the St. Carolyn by the Sea for Deutsche Grammophon.
