At Classicalite, we've been entertaining ourselves by watching videos of holiday flash mobs, while trying to convince our bosses that the proliferation of such is breaking news that really MUST be covered. Hey, it's the day before Christmas...what could be more timely?
Here, then, are the results of our copious research into this important trend.
The U.S. Air Force Band had a holiday surprise in store for visitors to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington two weeks ago. It starts with a single cellist on the floor of the museum's "Milestones of Flight" gallery. From these small beginnings comes something truly grand.
The video was posted on December 3, and already has more than two million hits on YouTube.
If you prefer a more mellow, pop-influenced version of holiday standards, there's the Berklee College of Music's flash mob at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston last week. This video was posted five days ago and already has more than 300,000 hits. It features soloist Mark Joseph and Boston-area instrumentalists.
This next video is a little older, but just as good, filmed at the University of Minnesota. A lone saxophonist starts to play, to the amusement of students hanging out in the lobby of the Carlson School of Management. Then, one by one, he is joined by 300 of his friends.
Holiday flash mobs are popping up all over the country, it seems. We hope you've enjoyed our roundup of the best ones on the web.
