If you're going to give a community Christmas concert, why not five? And if you're going to do it out in the community, why not take the music to five different places? Why not, indeed?
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra see no reason why not and so have done just that.
They spread themselves not just across five locations, but across various break-out ensembles and across a month of events. Among the ensembles were the Peachtree String Quartet and the Atlanta Symphony Brass Quintet.
Dubbed "The ASO is Taking Over Midtown" the ASO did indeed, err, take over Midtown Atlanta. All the holiday performances were free--and as well as doubtless attracting new fans to the orchestra and generally livening up the days of the folks who happened to wander past--the ASO also used their social media outlets to invite their fans to come along to each event.
On Monday, December 9, string players went to Emory Midtown Hospital. Then, on December 13, came Georgia Tech's Barnes & Noble. An iconic local office tower, 1075 Peachtree Street, happened next on December 18.
Same road, different address the following day--1180 Peachtreet Street, otherwise known as the Symphony Tower. And December 20 closed out the events with the brass quintet at the MARTA Arts Center Station.
