Today, Nashville-based artist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Dex Green releases his new single "Days Fly By," his next offering off forthcoming record: "Imaginary War," out June 28 via 3Sirens Music Group.
Alongside the arrival of the new track comes its gorgeous black-and-white official music video produced and directed by Hannah Gray Hall.
The song itself finds Green meditating on the passage of time over a swirl of futuristic synths and an infectious dose of Southern funk.
On Dex Green's 'Days Fly By'
"This was the first song I wrote for the record," shared Green about the new song. "I was jamming around on the drum kit exploring rhythmic ideas born out of Louisiana rhythm and blues."
"After adding some melody from a Roland Juno synth and some harmony from a Hammond organ, I started to stumble into some kind of retro-future-arcade-groove trip," he continued.
The artist added that he had a "blast" on the set of the "Days Fly By" music video, especially attributing his experience to Hall who helmed the whole production. In particular, Green gave props to Hall's "lens-side manner" and style.
"We sat down at the 3Sirens studio one afternoon to discuss a direction for the video and I told her about some of the creative process used in the making of the record," he recalled.
As per Green, one key element behind his process during the making of his new single is that he had Alain Resnais' '60s French New Wave film "Last Year at Marienbad" on repeat the whole time, from writing to the actual recording session.
From there, Hall took on the reins of Green's original inspiration and infused it into the video under her direction, with the black-and-white motif being a non-negotiable as to give homage to the vintage film.
Of his fellow "co-stars," Green said: "I was honored to have some of my close friends join me in the video. There are appearances by Aaron Lee Tasjan, Audley Freed, Jen Gunderman, Heather Gillis, Ray Jacildo, Bob Lewis, and Kevin Black, as well as Julia Knight in the lead role."
"Days Fly By" follows the soulful "It's Only the End of the World," a tongue-in-cheek ode to relishing life's fleeting moments, both of which are only two of ten tracks off "Imaginary War."
