On May 18, singer-songwriter Alice Wallace dropped her newest single, 'Imposter,' along with a music video. The singer's upcoming album 'Here I Am' will be available on Mule Kick Records on June 28.
Upon its premiere, Chorus.fm referred to the song as an important anthem about imposter syndrome and called the video "empowering."
In a statement in About Insider, Wallace explained that even though she has been writing and performing music since she was a teenager, she still questions whether she is qualified to stand on a stage and sing for an audience or record in a room with Grammy-winning musicians.
"It's a feeling I've always struggled with, but it reached a fever pitch for me when I was preparing this album. I wrote this song to help me feel less alone in the battle against my mind, but the fact is, it's such a common feeling, especially among women. It's time to embrace our inner imposters," she added.
Anana Kaye and Irakli Gabriel of Duende Vision directed and filmed the music video for 'Imposter.'
'Imposter' follows her lead single 'Letting It Go,' a song about coming to terms with and letting go of things that have profoundly harmed oneself.
The singer claimed that the older she gets, the more she realizes how often she has hung onto past hurts and how much it affects her. She shared that the song was very cathartic to write.
'Here I Am' marks a return to themes of introspection following several earlier collections that featured story songs.
Furthermore, the album's title hints at her intimate, confessional songwriting style, which is driven by a strong, dynamic delivery that establishes her as one of the genuine vocal talents of her generation.
