Last Friday, May 10, Grammy-nominated trio Midland joined hands with Orville Peck in a recently released, sweeping caution-to-the-wind, and Roy Orbison-evoking collaboration: "The Hurtin' Kind," out now on Peck's new duets album: "Stampede Vol. 1" (Warner Records).
Midland's joint song with Peck also marks their first release of music this year after the 2023 arrival of their "Up In Texas" album, which is an ode to the Lone Star State.
Next month, the group will be sharing a cover of Tom Petty's "Mary Jane's Last Dance" on their upcoming compilation record: "Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty," out June 21 via Big Machine Records.
About 'The Hurtin Kind' by Orville Peck and Midland
The artists first debuted the song aboard Midland's four-day-long "The Last Resort Cruise" last month. It was penned by Peck himself, alongside LELAND, Ryan Raines, Mark Wystrach, Cameron Duddy, and Jess Carson.
"Orville Peck is a dear friend of ours and it's an honor to be on this song with him," shared Midland. "We had a great time debuting 'The Hurtin' Kind' live with Orville on our Last Resort Cruise last month. He's an incredible performer and singer and y'all are in for it with this one."
The band is fresh off the heels of their performance-ridden maiden voyage and their "Up In Texas" headlining tour, which they wrapped up on May 11 in McAllen, TX. Following the culminating show of their tour, Midland appeared at this year's Big As Texas Festival last Sunday, May 12.
Throughout the Summer, the group will continue their journey on land with a series of new headline shows at the LA County Fair and the legendary Billy Bob's in Fort Worth, TX. The latter of which will be for a two-night stand on June 21 and 22.
The trio will also make subsequent appearances in the Bluebird Music Festival, Boots and Hearts Music Festival, and Born & Raised music events.
