Last Thursday, May 2, Austin-based singer-songwriter Jesse Daniel released his sharp-witted yet hopeful new single: "Tomorrow's Good Ol' Days," featuring Ben Haggard, son of country legend Merle Haggard.
This stomping piece of social commentary comes from Daniel's forthcoming LP: "Countin' The Miles," out June 7 through Lightning Rod Records. It also follows the roots-Americana artist's boisterously reflective lead single: "Comin' Apart At The Seams."
On Jesse Daniel's 'Tomorrow's Good Ol' Days,' Feat. Ben Haggard
"American songwriters have traditionally been observers, commentators, and critics of life in their country," shares Daniel. "With 'Tomorrow's Good Ol' Days,' I took a closer look at my own values as a songwriter and put those forward as honestly as I could."
"When I first wrote it," he continued. "I heard Ben Haggard's voice in it. I asked him to sing on it, and what he sent back gave me chills. His vocal delivery makes this song, and it is an honor to sing this one with him."
Haggard chimes in on the track's commentary, saying, "The good times ain't over for good if you invest in tomorrow's good ol' days."
This new song is in line with the new album and its core theme, which is rooted in Daniel's own deep conviction in country as a way of life. "Countin' The Miles" is an unabashed echo of the battle cry Daniel has spent years hearing from fans: "Jesse Daniel plays my kind of country."
Daniel's fourth studio album is the "kind of country" that is borne out of the desire to continue the legacy of the music, featuring greats of past and present alike, including Haggard, Jon Randall, the late Gene Elders of George Strait's Ace in the Hole Band, and Jodi Lyford, Daniel's partner and frequent co-writer.
