Update: The Brother Brothers Explores the Depth of Human Intimacy in Newly Released ‘The January Album’

Indie folk duo The Brother Brothers released last Friday, April 19, "The January Album," which was produced by Lake Street Dive's Bridget Kearney and first written by the sibling artists in early 2021.

The pair's new record aims to capture the incredible depth of human experience and intimacy at a time when that is all that seemed to have mattered, echoing the musical act's description of it as "an ode to the time we had time to take time."

"This is our most collaborative effort to date," shared the brothers. "The fact that we wrote so many of these songs together, and intentionally arranged them together, makes us feel like we've finally arrived at our 'sound!'"

On The Brother Brothers Creating 'The January Album'

Comprised of identical twins violinist Adam Moss and guitarist David Moss, the duo's latest offering marks their fourth studio album ever released and is a follow-up to their 2021 record: "Calla Lily."

Named after the month-long creation process of the album, which took place in NYC in January 2021 amid the raging police protests and the sprouting COVID lockdown regulations being enforced all over the city.

However, the siblings were particular in not letting this "zeitgeist" empower the music itself as they focused more on the intimate world around them and the well of human experience they had gone through at the time.

The duo first teased the album through their lead single "The Illinois River Song," released earlier this year. It was followed by "Lonesome," which arrived alongside an official music video, and is about "the conceptual passage of time through the varied lenses we have as humans."

Finally, The Brother Brothers bookended their advanced releases with a playful song about our obsession with using social media to pass the time called "Brown Dog," released in the latter part of March.
