Pianist and singer-songwriter Pete Muller released a new music video for his advance single: "Turn Away" last Thursday, April 18, ahead of his forthcoming record: "More Time," out May 17 through Two Truths Music.
The song itself is an honest but staggeringly aching ballad that embodies the emotional challenges involved in choosing whether to just accept change or try, however hard, to move on.
About 'Turn Away' by Pete Muller
Aquarian Weekly describes Muller as a "special cat in the way he molds his real-life introspection into the intricate soft rock melodies of his music," which is especially true in his latest offering.
Muller injects the melancholic energy of every "warm, breezy Jersey Shore night [during] summer" in "Turn Away" as he had in previous advance singles from his album, like his collaboration with Lisa Loeb: "Run Out of Love," and his title track: "More Time."
That said, "Turn Away" focuses more on the suffering one experiences while toeing the line between accepting what can't be changed and changing what can't be accepted.
"'Turn Away' is one of my favorite songs on the record," Muller explained. "The song talks about being in a situation (a job, a friendship, or a relationship) that doesn't quite feel right, or as the lyrics put it being 'caged in my own zoo.'
"But because you've invested so much already, it's hard to turn away," he added.
His upcoming album: "More Time," which he recorded in Memphis with Mass Ross-Spang, was first announced alongside its lead single last February. It's a record that leans more towards folk and roots, as opposed to Muller's earlier work which falls more into rock.
This shift in focus of genre shows up in the overall tone and vibe Muller took on with his latest releases off of the album.
