Children's and Family Emmy-winning "Heartstopper" actor Kit Connor and Golden Globe-winning "The Hunger Games Prequel" actress Rachel Zegler are slated to star in a new Broadway revival of William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet."
Helming the production, dubbed "Romeo + Juliet," is Tony-winning director Sam Gold. The show will also feature music from Grammy winner Jack Antonoff and movement choreography from Tony winner Sonya Tayeh.
The theatre that will house the production is yet to be announced, however, the opening will be in the Fall.
About the Upcoming Broadway Production of 'Romeo + Juliet'
Of the new revival, Gold said in a statement: "With the presidential election coming up in November, I felt like making a show this fall that celebrates youth and hope, and unleashes the anger young people feel about the world they are inheriting."
"Romeo + Juliet" is very much still about the two star-crossed lovers, whose relationship eventually and unfortunately comes to a head in a tragedy, however, this iteration is ominously attached with a tagline that says: "The youth are f**ked," suggesting the inclusion of a modern flavor.
It will also see the Broadway debuts of three acclaimed film talents Connor, Zegler, and Antonoff, the lattermost of whom has recently secured his third consecutive Grammy for Producer of the Year just last February.
As for the production's performance dates, design team, and additional casting, such information is expected to be announced at a later date.
The "Romeo + Juliet" revival is to be produced on Broadway by Seaview Productions, with 101 Production serving as general manager. Casting will be delegated to Taylor Williams.
Ticket sales will go live for the public in May, with early access now available for sign-ups at RomeoandJulietNYC.com.
