Last Monday, April 15, Grammy Award-winning and Oscar-nominated singer-songwriter and producer Tems from Lagos, Nigeria, announced her first-ever studio album: "Born In The Wild," to arrive this coming May through '93 and RCA Records.
The announcement follows Tems' Coachella Music Festival debut last Sunday, April 14, where she was joined by Wizkid, whose global hit track "Essence" she featured in, alongside Justin Bieber.
The Nigeria-based producer and artist is also slated to return to the Coachella stage this coming Sunday, April 21.
About Tems' 'Born In The Wild' Album
At the festival, Tems delivered an enthralling performance of her afro beats-driven introspective track: "Not An Angel," one of the lead singles off her upcoming album.
In addition, she also sang her incredibly well-received Nigerian R&B bop: "Me & U," which now boasts over 45 million streams and has spent more than 7 weeks in the top 5 of the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs Chart.
The release of these two new tracks marks three years since she put out a full-length release, the last being her 2021 "If Orange Was A Place" EP.
And yet, her enormous success remains steadfast, with her new releases even bagging her the Breakthrough Award at Billboard's 2024 Women in Music Awards last March 6, where she performed a stunning live iteration of "Not An Angel."
"I really want to use this opportunity to say to all the women in the room, in the world, that no matter what you're going through, you should know you're not alone," said Tems during her acceptance speech. "So even when you're sad, even when you're angry, there's someone that's angry, too.
"It's the women that got the women, trust me," Tems concluded.
