The list of Oscar nominations for the 2024 Academy Awards just came out last Tuesday, Jan. 23, and a handful of nods were given to film productions under the classical sphere.
This includes seven nominations for the Leonard Bernstein biopic "Maestro," which is led by Bradley Cooper, alongside a single acting nod for the Oprah-produced recent movie musical adaptation of "The Color Purple," among others.
'Maestro' in the 2024 Academy Awards Nominations
Although the "Barbenheimer" phenomenon is still expected to be most formidable in the upcoming prestigious awards ceremony, with a collective 21 nominations between the "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" films, the recent classical music biopic "Maestro" is still equally impressive with its seven nominations.
In particular, Netflix's bet in the Oscars earned nods in the categories of Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Sound, Best Actor for the movie's lead Bradley Cooper, and Best Actress for Carey Mulligan, who played the titular character's wife, Felicia Montealegre.
That said, Cooper, who also directed and produced the film, had been previously snubbed at the recent Golden Globes award despite being nominated for a total of six awards.
The internet had a field day ridiculing Cooper because of his lack of wins, with one X (formerly Twitter) user writing in a post: "And Bradley Cooper remains awardless."
With the "Barbenheimer" films expected to dominate again in the Academy Awards, many are also expecting Maestro to once again be snubbed.

Other Nominees in the Oscars 2024
In terms of other films under the classical sphere, other Broadway regulars have also made an appearance in the list of Best Actor nominees this year joining Cooper, including Colman Domingo for "Rustin," Paul Giamatti for "The Holdovers," and Jeffrey Wright for "American Fiction.
For the Best Actress nominees, on the other hand, familiar Broadway mainstay actresses also appeared in the list standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Mulligan. This includes Annette Benning for her work in "Nyad" and Emma Stone for her work in "Poor Things."
Actors with stage experience like Sterling K. Brown, who also worked in "American Fiction," and Mark Ruffalo-for his role in "Poor Things" film-join under the Best Supporting Actor category.
Tony nominees Danielle Brooks and Da'Vine Joy Randolph also bagged Oscar nominations under the Best Supporting Actress category for their respective roles in the film adaptation of "The Color Purple" and "The Holdovers."
The upcoming 96th iteration of the Annual Academy Awards will take place in LA on March 10. For the full list of nominations, visit the official Oscars website.
