Jonathan Bennett, perhaps most known for his stint as "Aaron Samuels" in the original "Mean Girls" movie, will now be donning the helmet of "Sir Robin" in the Broadway musical revival of "Spamalot" starting on Jan. 23, Playbill reports.
This upcoming performance marks his Broadway debut and will see him succeed Michael Urie over the role of the faint-hearted but creaively dependable knight of the roundtable. As for Urie, his final appearance as "Sir Robin" will be on Jan. 21.
About the Monty Python-Inspired Broadway Revival of 'Spamalot'
This particular revival production first opened last year on Nov. 16 at the St. James Theater following its initial performances that started a month prior, on Oct. 31.
The main cast of this run includes Tony-winning actor James Monroe Iglehart as "King Arthur," Tony nominee Ethan Slater as "The Historian or Prince Herbert," Tony nominee Alex Brightman as "Lancelot," and Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer as "The Lady of the Lake," among others.
The production itself was loosely inspired by the 1975 historical comedy movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." Its story follows King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table amidst their quest to find the Holy Grail, told in a zany manner that isn't far removed from its spiritual predecessor.
In 2005, the Broadway show was able to bag a Tony Award for Best Musical, thanks to its book which was written by Eric Idle, alongside a score made by the duo of Idle and John Du Prez.
Earlier that same year, for its direction and choreography, Josh Rhodes took up the mantle and staged the production's inaugural show at The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
Of the upcoming run of "Spamalot," Bennet told People Magazine "It's my dream come true. I'm so pumped." However, he will continue his portrayal of "Sir Robin" only until Feb. 4 as he is needed for the filming of an unstated television series.
