Last Sunday, Jan. 14, during the closing performance of the "corniest" musical-comedy hit on Broadway, "Shucked," lead producer Mike Bosner joined the cast in their last curtain call to announce a feature film adaptation that Mandalay Pictures is producing.

In a video recording posted to the "Shucked" Instagram account, you can hear Bosner say: "We're all a little sad to say goodbye to this. But there's some good news. We don't have to say goodbye just yet."
"Because I'm happy to announce that we will be making a feature film of Shucked," he continued. Naturally, this was met by an eruption of cheers from the audience. Afterward, he led the cast in a sing-along reprise of the show's second-act opener "We Love Jesus."
In a joint statement to Deadline, Mandalay president and producer of the recent film "Air," Jason Michael Berman, alongside Alan Fox and the company's VP Jordan Moldo have confirmed their roles in the film adaptation as producers.
In addition, David Zelon and Sandra R. Berman will be joining the project as executive producers.
According to Berman, Fox, and Moldo, they weren't shocked by the successful reception the Broadway production got as they have been following the musical since its "early workshops."
In addition, they also said that the movie will employ the same creative team behind the hit Broadway show in a "movie about community building, told through laughter, music, and of course corn."

About 'Shucked' the Musical
Although the production itself came out of left field when it was announced for Broadway last spring, critics immediately fell in love with the musical-comedy upon its first few shows, especially with its subtly sophisticated corn-centric jokes.
Audiences were also inclined to "feast" on the humor, however, attendance to the shows gradually lowered until its final show last Jan. 14 at the Nederlander Theatre where it performed in a total of 28 previews and 327 regular shows.
In terms of formal recognition, the production has been nominated eight times for the Tony Awards and took home the win for Best Featured Actor/Musical for Alex Newell's time as part of the "Shucked" cast.
In addition, it has also been nominated for a Grammy, running for the Best Musical Theater Album Award.
The musical itself revolves around a corn-growing Midwestern community that is thrown into disorder when the crops suddenly begin to wither. In search of a corn doctor, a girl named "Maizy" leaves the confines of the town only to find a podiatrist who turns out to be a con man.
Aside from the announcement of the film adaptation, a North American tour is also part of the "corn's" next plans, which will be launched this upcoming fall in Nashville. Also, an Australian and London transferral is currently in the works.
