The hit new musical production, "Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)", is transferring to West End's Criterion Theatre after an extended and sold-out ten-week run at London's Kiln Theatre, which will end this coming Saturday, Jan. 20.
This critically acclaimed two-hander musical, opening at the Criterion starting on April 4 until July 14, will once again star Dujonna Gift (known from "Hamilton") as "Robin" and the Olivier-winning actor Sam Tutty (known from "Dear Evan Hansen") as "Dougal."
What is the 'Two Strangers' Musical About?
Directed by Tim Jackson and written by Jim Barne and Kit Buchan, the record-breaking Kiln Theatre musical follows the story between "Dougal," a naive Brit who is visiting New York for his estranged father's second wedding, and "Robin," an always on-the-hustle city girl who happens to be the bride's sister.
Sufficed to say, the sparks don't fly right off the bat. But armed with a cake and a mission to transport it across New York in time for the wedding, the two form a surprisingly endearing bond with each other.
This new quirky romcom was preceded by an earlier version called "The Season," which debuted at the Royal and Derngate Theatre as well as The New Wolsey Theater. A version that won its writers, Barne and Buchan, honors from The Stage Debut Award and the Stiles & Drewe Prize.
In a joint statement about the upcoming transfer to West End, producers of the musical said: "We're thrilled to collaborate and present this record-breaking new British musical at the iconic Criterion Theatre."
"That we get to champion a stellar team including newcomers Buchan and Barne makes it all the sweeter. We're excited to continue serving up this incredible production to new audiences and transporting them on a captivating journey across the Atlantic every night this spring," they continued.
