When The LAD Bible posted a since-deleted meme fat-shaming Wentworth Miller on Monday, he addressed it by opening up about his suicidal past. The Prison Break star has written an essay in response to the site's hurtful post.
The meme compares two photos of Miller—one shirtless from the actor's run on Prison Break, and another, from years later. It's captioned with "When you break out of prison and find out about McDonald's monopoly." In a heartfelt post on Miller's Facebook page, he explained the photo.
“First and foremost, I was suicidal,” he explained. “This is a subject I’ve since written about, spoken abut, shared about. But at the time I suffered in silence. As so many do. The extent of my struggle known to very, very few.”
The 43-year-old shared that the 2010 pictures of his fuller figure were taken during "the lowest point in my adult life," he wrote. "I was looking everywhere for relief/comfort/distraction. And I turned to food."
He added, "It could have been anything. Drugs. Alcohol. Sex. But eating became the one thing I could look forward to," he noted. "Count on to get me through. There were stretches when the highlight of my week was a favorite meal and a new episode of TOP CHEF. Sometimes that was enough. Had to be. And I put on weight. Big f--king deal."
Also a writer, Miller makes use of his skill set with lines like these: "Like a dandelion up through the pavement, I persist," he writes. "Anyway. Still. Despite."
The LAD Bible has since deleted the post and issued an apology to Miller after the fat shaming scandal.
