Ann Arbor District Library Allows Cardholders to Check Out Theremins, Keytars

A new musical library has opened inside the Ann Arbor District Library in Michigan. An innovation for tech geeks abound, the newest section of the building features an enclave of musical devices that are available for rental with a proper library card.

Dubbed AADL's Music Tools collection, members of the library can check out an assortment of electronic instruments conducive to the imagination. A unique effort with a variety of digital and analog gear, some brands mentioned are Moog, Korg, Roland, Teenage Engineering, Critter & Guitari and beyond.

Per Synthtopia:

"-Need an MS-20 mini? Check it out with your library card!

-Need a Bass Station II? Check it out with your library card!

-Need a Sub Phatty to lay down some bass? Check one out!

-Want to try out the new Roland Boutique synths? They've got them all!

-Keytars, Volcas, Electribes, a Circuit Bent Omnichord, freaky folktronic gear, and even a Eurorack modular are all available, along with effects pedals, amps and a lot of weird acoustic instruments."

However there are some restrictions to follow that aren't applicable to books. For those interested, it should be addressed that the Music Tools are not renewable; they are not able to be requested; and they can only be checked out for one week at a time.

Nonetheless, preview all that's in store from the new section at the Ann Arbor District website. And as they want you to remember, the rules might be strict for now but in the long term, hopefully there will be better and more interesting ways of borrowing in the future.

One thing that's definitely not on the list of instruments to borrow: a badgermin. Check one of those in action below.
