She Loves Me is back on Broadway and it looks like a hit. The revival classic Sheldon Hemrick, Jerry Bock and Joe Masteroff musical stars Zachary Levi (First Date) and Laura Benetti (Gypsy).
On opening night, She Loves Me lyricist, Sheldon Hemrick, 91, spoke to Playbill about the experience and the absence of the late composer Jerry Bock and book writer Joe Masteroff who couldn’t make it out because of the weather:
“I loved this production, just loved it. It only saddens me that Jerry Bock is not around to see this. I’m going to call him when I get home. Joe saw those wet streets when he was leaving the house and decided not to come for fear of falling.”
Zachary Levi also spoke to the publication about where he compared his previous work First Date to She Loves Me:
“I’ve got to talk to those guys who wrote First Date and ask them if She Loves Me was any inspiration for them. There are so many parallels -- a guy and girl who are getting to know each other but don’t like each other and then do like each other. This is the second Broadway show in a row where I’ve ended up with just a kiss.”
She Loves Me is currently playing at the Roundabout’s Studio 54, located 254 West 54th St. For ticket information please visit RoundaboutTheatre.org or call (212) 719-1300.
