Rufus Wainwright Restages ‘Judy Garland Live at Carnegie Hall’ Concert This June

Ten short years ago, Rufus Wainwright honored the late, great Judy Garland with two special tribute concerts at Carnegie Hall. This June, Wainwright, will once again be performing the tribute concerts based on Garland’s live 1961 double album from the same famed venue.

Judy Garland’s 1961 double album Judy at Carnegie Hall earned her a Grammy Award. In 2006 Rufus Wainwright staged two night a tribute to the show, titited, Rufas Wainwright Does Judy at Carnegie Hall. The recording of Wainwright’s duel performances was nominated for a Grammy award.

Now, Wainwright is revisiting that concert with a re-staging this July.

Rufus Wainwright released a statement about why he is revisiting the concert, saying (via Playbill):

“A lot has happened in 10 years on all fronts and musically this show will reflect that. This brilliant material was constructed to widen and deepen with age and I’m looking forward to the experience of singing these songs again, myself being more experienced. Can’t wait to slip back into those ruby slippers, though in this day and age of comfort and commercialism I suppose they should be ruby sneakers!”
