Year of Upsets Leads to No Clear Cut Favorites in NCAA March Madness

Tuesday night, another highly-ranked team lost as No. 5 Xavier fell to middle-of-the-pack Creighton, 70-56. This is not new news to the college basketball world, as upsets have been the theme of the 2015-16 season. It seems like no team is safe, which is even more surprising considering Kentucky's undefeated regular season last year. The parity between teams is more apparent than ever, and because of that no team is truly the favorite to win the NCAA Champiponship.

March Madness was given the name it has because of how crazy the games can be. It truly is chaos and madness. In 2010, the obvious favorite, Kansas, didn't even make the Sweet Sixteen, thanks to a team that already has upset a No. 1 team this season, Northern Iowa. Good luck not getting goosebumps while watching the 25 greatest upsets in Tournament history, which accurately portrays just how crazy the tournament can get.

North Carolina started the season at No. 1, but has lost four games already. Despite that, they were No. 2 in the nation last week, and even after two losses are at No. 9. Only one team in the Top 25 has less than three losses, 20-2 SMU, who is ranked No. 16, who has a postseason ban and therefore won't even be able to play into this season's madness.

The rankings show Villanova at the top, with Maryland and Oklahoma at No. 2 and 3. Villanova is all about team play, where as Maryland runs through a few stars and Oklahoma relies on the guy who should be the favorite to be National Player of the Year in Buddy Hield. All three of these teams posses something that makes them dangerous come tournament time. We've seen many different philosophies win championships. In 2013, a Michigan team led by a few national stars made it all the way to the National Championship Game, where they lost to the team-first Louisville Cardinals.

This season has been crazy and strange, and we've all seen how crazy and strange March Madness can get. This season will be finish fun, no matter who wins the title. At this point, it could be anyone.
