The 2015-16 college basketball season has been absolutely ridiculous so far! No team is safe in any given game, and we've seen giants fall time and time again already. The AP Top 25 has seen some upsets in Week 12, and it's only halfway over. What else can we expect from the rest of this crazy week?
- 1. Oklahoma 16-2
- 2. North Carolina 18-2
- 3. Iowa 16-3
- 4. Kansas 16-3
- 5. Texas A&M 17-2
- 6. Villanova 17-3
- 7. Xavier 17-2
- 8. Maryland 17-3
- 9. West Virginia 16-3
- 10. Providence 17-3
- 11. Virginia 15-4
- 12. Michigan State 17-4
- 13. SMU 18-1
- 14. Iowa State 15-4
- 15. Miami (FL) 15-3
- 16. Louisville 16-3
- 17. Baylor 15-4
- 18. Arizona 16-4
- 19. Indiana 17-3
- 20. Kentucky 15-4
- 21. Purdue 17-4
- 22. Wichita State 14-5
- 23. Oregon 16-4
- 24. Duke 15-5
- 25. Notre Dame 14-5
Above is the most recent rankings, released Monday, January 25. And in just four days of action, we've seen more than a few of those teams go down.
On Monday, Duke lost yet another game, this time falling to Miami, 80-69. On the same night, Kansas was upset by Iowa State, who will no doubt move up into the top 10 in Week 13 after basically blowing them out 85-72.
Tuesday night, Wisconsin upset Indiana 82-79 in an epic overtime game; and Xavier beat Providence 75-68.
January 27, Wednesday, unranked Arkansas (a mere 10-10 this season) dethroned No. 5 Texas A&M, winning 74-71.
Finally, last night, Notre Dame was taken down by unranked Syracuse (14-8) 81-66; Maryland took out Iowa, the top Big Ten team in the rankings; and Oregon beat Pac-12 leader Arizona.
This season has been absolutely insane. Unbelievably, for the first time in a while, parity exists in the college basketball ranks, which is a truly remarkable sight. Generally, there are a handful of teams -- or at least a couple -- that are simply a notch or two above everyone else. But in 2015-16, anything goes and these teams have to worry about getting knocked off almost any given night. It's a wonderful thing for general basketball fans -- but it must be terrifying for fans of any high-ranking programs.
So what can we expect this weekend?
Fortunately, no top-25 teams play tonight. But tomorrow and Sunday, we'll see some games that are definitely worth keeping an eye on:
- - No. 9 West Virginia at Florida (Saturday, 12 p.m. ET)
- - No. 11 Virginia at No. 16 Louisville (Saturday, 1 p.m. ET)
- - No. 14 Iowa State at No. 5 Texas A&M (Saturday, 2 p.m. ET)
- - No. 15 Miami at NC State (Saturday, 3 p.m. ET)
- - No. 1 Oklahoma at LSU (Saturday, 5 p.m. ET)
- - No. 20 Kentucky at No. 4 Kansas (Saturday, 7 p.m. ET)
- - No. 10 Providence at Georgetown (Saturday, 8 p.m. ET)
- - Wake Forest at No. 25 Notre Dame (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET)
- - No. 8 Maryland at Ohio State (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET)
- - Northwestern at No. 3 Iowa (Sunday, 3 p.m. ET)
- - No. 23 Oregon at Arizona State (Sunday, 8:30 p.m. ET)
There are going to be a lot of potentially great and shocking games this weekend. If you love basketball, there's no question that a day plopped in front of your TV will be well worth it, as we inch ever closer to March Madness.
