Earl Simmons, better knows as rapper DMX, reportedly collapsed and was found with no pulse nor respirations on Monday, February 8 in a hotel parking lot in Yonkers, New York. The rapper had been complaining of chest pains and "shortness of breath" outside his hotel room and he collapsed. He was then rushed to the hospital where he was treated and released.
Police received a call Monday night for an unconscious man in a Ramada Inn parking lot. When they arrived with Empress Ambulance personnel, they found him unresponsive and began performing CPR.
"That individual was found to be in a lifeless condition with no pulse, no respirations," Lt. Patrick McCormack told The Daily News. "This was an excellent job by the officers and they definitely saved the life."
Although the 45-year-old rapper's collapse was initially reported as an asthma attack, an eyewitness revealed to the cops that there could be drugs involved saying that DMX “ingested some sort of powder before lapsing,” TMZ reports.
DMX and a family member denied the drug allegation and said that the rapper was having an asthma attack and his team was not quick enough to give him his inhaler so he fell unconscious.
Lt. McCormack confirmed DMX's statement revealing that “there was nothing found at the scene that was illegal” and he is not going to be charged with any crime for the incident.
After news broke of his collapse and hospitalization, many of his celebrity friends took to Twitter to send him love and prayers.
DMX is expected to fully recover.
