Sara Bareilles’ (“Love Song”) new Broadway musical, Waitress, is getting ready to start rehearsals on Monday, February 08. Based on the 2007 movie, Waitress is the first musical to be entirely created by women. The show is scheduled for previews in March and an April opening.
Sara Bareilles might be new to Broadway but she is a lifelong fan of musical theater. Bareilles, telling Billboard:
“I’m living out my dreams. My sister and mom were both in theater, and it was this whole discovery for me to see the community of cast and crew. I was in Little Shop of Horrors -- I played Audrey and a street urchin -- and Charlotte’s Web as a kid. Soundtracks like Miss Saigon and Oklahoma! were my introduction to being a listener.”
The cast includes:
Jessie Mueller as Jenna.
Eric Anderson as Cal.
Nick Cordero as Earl.
Christopher Fitzgerald as Ogie.
Drew Gehling as Dr. Pomater.
Kimiko Glenn as Dawn.
Dakin Matthews as Joe
Keala Settle as Becky.
The book is written by Jessie Nelson. Sara Bareilles provides music and lyrics. Lorin Latarro serves as choreographer. Diane Paulus is directing.
Sara Bareilles’ musical adaptation of Waitress goes into previews on March 25, 2016 and officially opens on April 24, 2016 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on 256 W. 47th St.
