Broadway favorite Alan Cumming is a about to get really sappy. The famed Cabaret Emcee and former X-Men member is about to release his brand new solo album, Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs. In the brand new album recorded live at NYC’s Café Carlyle,Cummings covers a wide range of music from Stephen Sondheim to Miley Cyrus.If you like that news than you are going to love this. In celebration of the new record Alan Cumming is also going to have a few friends over to Sing Sappy Songs with him at his February 9 Carnegie Hall performance.
Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs features Cumming covering a wide range of songs from various different genera including: Billy Joel’s “Goodnight Saigon,” Miley Cyrus’s “The Climb,” Rufus Wainwright’s “Dinner at Eight”, as well as numbers from classic musicals like the Stephen Sondheim’s “The Ladies Who Lunch” from Company, Kander and Ebb’s “You, You, You” from The Visit and Noel Coward’s “If Love Were All.”
Cummings is backed by Eleanor Norton on cello, Chris Jago on drums and Michael Croiter on guitar and percussion, with musical director Lance Horne filling in on piano and providing backup vocals. Horne also provided orchestrations and arrangements for the new record.
