From now until spring, New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall has something for music lovers all across the board. Later this month, the iconic venue will host some of the best brass musicians from The Yale School of Music. In early February, some of Broadway’s best, Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked) and Darren Criss (Hedwig and The Angry Inch), will sing along with Cabaret star Alan Cumming for with some Sappy Songs. Later in February, the Hall’s own fellowship chamber ensemble, DECODA, will be heading on over to Bocca di Bacco in Chelsea to kick off the Tertulia Chamber Music series.
The Yale School of Music’s Yale Brass Trio (William Purvis, horn; Allan Dean, trumpet; and Scott Hartman, trombone) will be performing selections from late Yale faculty composers Ezra Laderman and Gunther Schuller later this month. Joining the Yale Brass Trio will be Yale of New York faculty member Carol Jantsch on tuba, with additional Yale students and alumni.
The Brass of Yale perform at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, January 24, 2016 starting at 7:30 PM. Tickets cost $25 for general admission with student pricing at $15 and senior pricing at $20.
In early February, Broadway star Alan Cumming will take the stage to Sing Sappy Songs with Friends, including Kristin Chenoweth, Darren Criss, Ricki Lake and The New York Gay Mens Choir. The concert event is in celebration of Cumming’s upcoming album, Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs with Friends.
Spinning off from Carnegie Hall is DECODA the ACJW fellowship program from Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute. The chamber ensemble is kicking off it’s Tertulia Chamber Music series on February 23, 7 PM at Bocca di Bacco in Chelsea.
