New Fov TV Show Lucifer so Stupid It May Brilliant

Imagine, Satan comes to earth and lives in Los Angeles, after all, where else would he live? Of course his name is the highly contrived Lucifer Morningstar and he runs a nightclub, too. After a friend is murdered, he teams up with a female LAPD detective investigating the case because he wants to see those responsible punished. Lucifer's main power seems to be in reading people's hidden desires. In that way, he can manipulate them with their secrets and, by the way, our lady detective is immune to his charms, but Satan has no idea why. So old Beelzebub wants to know why. If this all seems very comic-bookish, that is because it is based on Neil Gaiman's great Sandman series for DC comics Vertigo imprint. The TV show is called Lucifer.

The new Fox television series is "so stupid it is almost brilliant." That is a direct quote from AV Club. Lucifer is, by turns, funny, ambitious in concept, philosophical, stupid and highly derivative of other shows. Sleepy Hollow and Castle jump first to mind. The basic premise of an amateur riding along with a cop to investigate crimes certainly comes from Castle. Despite this uneven mix of cliches and borrowed concepts, Lucifer is very watchable and even fun. But it should watch its mythology and ratio of camp.

All of the comic book content about the devil coming to earth leaves a lot of room for existential angst as the other denizens of hell want the devil to come back. It turns out not to be the same place without him. Meanwhile, Lucifer himself is going around LA insulting everyone, but it's okay, because he has an English accent. The camp, at times, runneth over. Lucifer is well played by veteran British actor, Tom Ellis. The female lead is Lauren German.

According to the right wing Afa website, they objected to the airing of the show stating that it would glorify Satan.

Shouldn't they have waited to see the ratings?
